BEIJING 2008: CHINA SMILES AT THE WORLD

the 29th olympic games opened today in beijing.

may the olympic spirit prevail

& give us a time of peace, of respect & of dignity.

there may have been much criticism & concerns,

but this remains a momentous moment in history.

china is opening its arms to the world for two weeks,

& from the looks of it,

also its heart.

how could you say "no" to 1.3 billion people?

:)~

the opening ceremonies reflected 6000 years of civilisation,

6000 years of history,

6000 years of know-how,

6000 years of culture

that has brought great things to the global human culture,

be it gunpowder, paper, typography, the compass, silk

& kites!!

quite a legacy,

if you consider the impact these things have had on

all other civilisations.

china meant to seduce us

with a large array of colors

found in their traditional costumes

& light displays & the fireworks.

also through its music,

traditional & contemporary.

& the choregraphies,

done with military precision,

but so gracefully.

altogether,

the perfect balance between

exhuberance & sobriety.

everything was mastered to perfection

& gave us some memorable moments

with a most splendid show that was awe inspiring.

china may not have a perfect record as far as human rights go,

but i guess such a large population

requires a different set of rules,

different than from what we know.

but we must respect

the effort of this people

to receive us,

& in such a grand way.

definitely a first glance

that is magnificent.
