JULIEN DORE a l'ASTRAL (FRANCOs DE MONTREAL 2009)

here's the culprit who draggued my ass off to the francos

to see julien dore:

lucrecia!!

she was simply beaming after the show...

i was the most unlikely candidate

to go see that show.

i had never set foot at the francos;

i'm not so keen on male singers;

& he's not even local...

so,

this is not a review

as lucrecia will certainly write something soon

about her little darling on critikx.

this is just a comment on my evening.

i was not overly impressed with the room,

since i think l'astral could have easily afforded

a few more tables & chairs

to accomodate people.

spending an evening standing up

is not my idea of fun.

& neither the fact

that i couldn't even get my cocktail shaken...

there was a first part with amylie,

a quebecker singer,

who delivered a good performance,

along with her musicians.

not my style at all,

but it was charming.

the only drawback was the sound,

the instruments drowned out her voice...

julien had the same problem in the beginning of his show.

julien, julien, julien!!

when he finally came on stage,

the crowd gave him an enthusiastic welcome.

l'astral is a small venue,

it was a small crowd,

so this would be an intimate concert,

but certainly a lively one.

julien had said he & his band are more rock

than in his studio performances.

INDEED!!!

the tiny frenchman with the wild hair can r-o-c-k your world!!

at first,

i was surprised by the sheer size of the guy:

he's a twink!!!

he's so tiny!!

i could easily pick him up on my shoulder & leave...

tiny but 100% full of energy

as his presence on stage captivated us throughout the show.

he delivered the songs we were already somewhat familiar with,

and surprised us (well, me) with some progressive rock,

& mixed in with his brand of humor,

giving us a better sense of the man he is:

intriguing!!

unusual, marginally sexy,

he's got a certain appeal that will ensure him

a str8 & gay following.

BTW,

for those who care for this kind of detail:

briefs or boxers???

boxers!!!

i'm gay!!

of course i would pay attention to this kind of details...

he seemed in good spirit,

perhaps a bit shy,

but nonetheless quite generous with his audience,

as he even concluded the show singing a duet with coeur de pirate...

then he stepped off the stage with his musicians

to sing a song accoustically,

with the crowd gathering around them.

he didn't get mobbed

as we are respectful of artists here,

& we got to enjoy his accessiblity & his charm upclose & personal.

i'll admit:
i had a good time!!!

who knew?!?

enjoying a french concert....

i never thought i'd ever see the day.

merci julien!!!
i'm certain everyone present also enjoyed themselves,

especially lucrecia!!

should he ever come back,

i think i'd like to see him again,

but under more comfortable circumstances.

as i'm getting older,

my comfort is becoming more important.

but it was worth the sacrifice of my comfort

as this artist managed to surprise me

& make me smile [inwardly...]

as i wouldn't let on too much to lucrecia

that she made the right choice...

yes girl,

you were right,

julien is good,

he's really that good!!!!

i'm considering buying his CD,

"ERSATZ".

YES,

( i do have a reputation to maintain...)

as for lucrecia,

she's now vindicated,

after all of her enthusiasm she had expressed about julien

on her own blog.

it was not in vain!!

we left the show

feeling energized & enchanted with the experience,

because that's what it was,

quite the experience!!

julien is simply fascinating on stage.

c'est la follie furieuse!!

il est evident que julien est big en europe,

si j'en juge par le nombre de visiteurs.

alors,

pour ceux qui n'auraient pas compris...

j'ai adore julien,

contre toute attente.

il a tres bien fait a montreal.

voila!!

UPDATE: AUGUST 9TH

as i said before,

i went to get my very own copy of ERSATZ,

yesterday afternoon,

so i can now enjoy his studio performances,

& remember fondly his performance on stage.

they are worlds apart

& i'm glad i got to experience both.

when will julien come back?!?
