BLAME IT ON THE BORDEAUX !!!

did i do that?!?
really???
blame it on the bordeaux i had
with my dinner last night...
:D~

in a fit of cleaning,
i had thrown away my holidays white lights
as they were getting somewhat old,
and got some new ones,
colored ones!!!
i had been doing "white" for so many years,
that i didn't know for sure
i'd like the switch to colors.
since i have neighbors that 've already [over]done
all of their outdoor xmas decos,
i figured i might do mine,
which are definitely more subtle than theirs...
like, no kidding!!
they're the farce of the building...
no, no pictures.
i'll preserve what little dignity they may have left
by not exposing the garishness of their installations.
:)~

how's this for a set-up?!?
8 foot wide, 4 foot high, 1 inch thick,
it still makes quite the impression in the room
without overtaking it.
a mix of stars, snowflakes & lights.
i had to keep the bottom part of the patio door cleared
as it is carrie's, my cat, first holiday season...
you surely can imagine
the potential damages
if i had done the whole door instead of just the upper part...
when i think back of the time
i used to do visual diplays for a now defunct major canadian retail store,
i used to favor an opulent style,
(verging somewhat toward roccoco...),
i've come a long way to reach this level of simplicity.
another factor could also be,
as much as i enjoyed doing this for a job,
the holidays didn't mean much to me personally,
as they didn't necessarily stir up great memories,
nor have any religious meaning either...
but in an attempt to bring some cheers to this dreary cold season,
& to appear somewhat "normal"...
(as if ever!!!),
i do this,
according to my own comfort zone.
also,
my mom's passing away has contributed to keeping things more sober,
but i surprise myself this year
with my "enthusiasm"...
:)~

here giving some bling to my few "green thumb" attempts.
:)~

two small vignettes in the dining area
with my collection of snowmen.
i may add some snow,
if i see that carrie doesn't jump everywhere...
;)~

of course,
a little something for the kitchen!!!
:)~

and here's the wine that fueled my evening
and accompanied my "coq au vin" dish.
not a bad choice and quite affordable,
currently available and promoted at your local SAQ.
i'm satisfied with my work,
this said in the middle of the night...
as carrie chose to wake me up at around 1:30 am...
i think we need separate bedrooms.
she already has her own,
but prefers sleeping in mine.
i like that,
but i still like better getting the mere few hours of sleep
i may grab.
they're so rare & far apart sometimes...
alright now,
time to refill my coffee!!
let's hope i haven't traumatized anyone with this...
:D~

I love looking at holiday decorations. My favorite holiday ever is Christmas, Walt Disney version. :) It's not so much for its connotation than it is for the coziness, the cheer and the family ambiance (something I always lacked and longed for).

I have already celebrated Xmas once (and was offered a chili sauce jar, for some reason, cos it reminded the person of me ... for some reason) and hope to celebrate it, Walt Disney style, for years to come, hopefully surrounded by my chosen family :)

That's a very good job you did there, Tickle-to-the-bear :) Bravo!

@ mister g.a.g.:
keeping it simple, better than nothing at all. since it only reminds me mostly of miserable childhood memories, & that there's not much family to speak of now, or at least, not in the sense one would wish for, it appears to be merely an attempt at comformity.

HEIN???
Déjà?!?
Mais c'est l'été des indiens!

NOOOOON!

@ Ticklebear: It's because you and I have shaky family memories/ties that I mentioned having a "chosen family" - people whose company we appreciate and can count on through thick and thin.

In a way, I write online to find m y chosen family, as ambitious and surreal it might sound to some. :)

Peut-être qu'un de ces jours, on fêtera noel tous ensemble, avec Lucrecia et d'autres gens cools dénichés en ligne :D

Great decor, I must admit that it make a more colorful window, than I've seen at your place before.

It kind of reminds me of the Fireworks display that you can see from you balcony during the summer.

Very cheery. Actually I think your whole decor makes it cozy, and even though you added color, you know how to do it in style my friend.

PS I have not decorated for Xmas for the past 5 years... but since family party is at my place this year, guess I'll have to buy tree, trimmings and lights (always loved the lights). Let's see how far I can go on a small budget.

as far as online encounters go, i haven't been impressed so much so far... except for a few exceptions.
