I believe I could hardly be any more on target,
given Alan's prompt which involved a child on a big chair and toys.
These photographs were in such poor shape,
paper bent and creased, cracking in some cases,
showing scratches and dirt.
I tried restoring them to some degree...
:)~
Me,
sitting pretty in my parents' livingroom in 1963,
surrounded by a big red balloon and an even bigger teddy bear.
Possibly where my love of Tartan began...
Nothing was written on the back of any of these pictures
but I can still ascertain that it was in 1963
as the birthday cake shows two candles.
Wouldn't it be better if they were lit up?
I'm just saying...
Possibly explain why I never got my wish,
whatever it was...
;)~
I wonder if this was the apartment my parents rented
where there was a problem.
My mom told me I would cry and say
"Mouches, Mouches!!"
(Flies, Flies!!),
but these weren't flies,
they were cockroaches!!
Is it where I developed my innate disgust for everything creepy crawly?!
It won't surprise anyone if I say
that my parents quickly moved away,
again...
You'll recognize some familiar faces here:
my mom, moi[!!], Uncle G. and my maternal Grandma.
Can someone explain something to me?
If I got brand new toys for my birthday,
why am I playing with a rosary?!?
I guess my parents didn't get the memo
they'd be raising an atheist.
But it sure made for interesting discussions
when I got older...
:D~

In case you were wondering:
I was studying German when this came out..

I just love the expression on your face looking at your bear. You were quite dapper in your bowtie.
@ WENDY:
I guess I wasn't threatened despite its size. The only toy I remember not liking was a clown puppet. The thing scared me silly as it would sit idly, watching me sleep...

This post made me smile. I love the stories you tell. I knew before I clicked what that song was (by your clue and the singer’s profile) but I just had to click didn’t I?
For a future atheist you seem to be enjoying that rosary to the fullest. A very dapper two year old you were too.
@ LITTLE NELL:
Of course you had to!!
That was the whole idea,
for people to click,
to reminisce about some old song
to set you in a happy mood.
I loved this song,
and it endured Time quite well.

@ KRISTIN:
Religions have always been of interest to me as it helps me better understand social behavior and human nature. And I've often photographed churches around here as it is part of our architectural/cultural heritage.
I may be an atheist, but I am not aggressive about it. I try not to ridicule people for their beliefs, though there are always some extremes that leave me stupefied, my jaw hanging in astonishment... Some people seem to be living in the Dark Ages rather than the 21rst century... you know?

The bear must have seemed huge to such a little boy. I think its expression is a little scary.
I bet that rosary made a fun noise you liked. I remember that song well. One of my daughters had a stalker when she was in high school. It was a girl and she would call and just play that song. MY daughter finally challenged her and beat the crap out of her. What memories SS can conjure up. You did a good job restoring those photos.

I suppose the answer to the rosary is the same reason kids play with the box more than the toy that came in it! ha.
I can still see the younger you in your face now!
And, you're a fellow 1961 babe! :)
Adorable photos!
You appear to be holding teddy back in the chair with your look daring him to move.
You Must Have Been The Cutiest Atheist in Town!
What a cutie! I love this post.

@ POSTCARDY:
Since I've always liked teddy bears,
I'll venture to say this one here made the proper impression on me...

Memories make for an amazing maze, revealing only a little at the time.
While I was restoring these, memories of various comments came in flooding, and I can only rely on those as I clearly don't remember that birthday of mine, obviously...

Now that starts out with one giant bear and one tiny boy who appears to be wondering how to deal with this, but you did get through by the photos. I smiled to see you with the rosary--we never know where life will take us do we? If there were concerns about these photos you did a great job, they look new...
@ PAT TRANSPLANTED to MN:
I believe I can say I've had quite a journey so far, and I'm now seeking more serene horizons. I can't face any more emotional tsunamis or have my world shaken to the core. Comes a time when one needs to settle down, comfortably...
As for the pics, if it weren't for photoshop, they'd be a total loss...
Trying to salvage a few memories here.

You were adorable, especially with the vest and bow tie. Teddy was cute too. I'm glad there are no photos of the cockroaches. Couldn't get to the song for some reason.
@ CHRISTINE H.:
I wouldn't care for insect pictures either. I did photograph a dragonfly and some butterflies last year, but that's about it.
Maybe you're missing a plug-in in your browser to read flash. Look it up!! Mozilla has such plug-ins.

What a cute little man about town you were. Glad people pointed out it was a rosary - at first I thought that it might have been a string of dried insects.
@ ALAN BURNETT:
while your suggestion gave me a good chuckle, it also grossed me out!!
Oh shivers!!

Love the bow tie and the tartan as it is a favorite of mine as well. As far as playing with the rosary, don't you know that babies/toddlers never want to play with their toys, it's always the odd things like the empty boxes or their parents car keys, etc.
@ TERESA WILSON ROGERS:
Since I don't have kids, I'll take your word for it. But I venture it is the novelty effect that attracts young ones to play with such things.
I still get interested in odd things...even if only for a short while!! Some things remain the same.

What a cutie! And saying the rosary with the family.....I thought my family was the only one to do that!
For a second I thought you were wearing Nova Scotia tartan! Can't quite see it.....Black Watch maybe?
You were 3 in 63? A child still!
Just totally awesome, you not only were like the cutest little boy, but surely the best dressed and cared for...and your unlit birthday cake sure caught the flash when they took the picture, that is so cool...it probably was one of those large flash blubs? I also enjoyed the sleek presentation of each snapshot...that is very cool! You are a master with your photos!
@ JIM:
I was 2 and it does look like some Blackwatch tartan. Story of my life since the jacket I wore at that private school my parents sent me to was also Blackwatch. And as an adult, I did wear the kilt for a while...

Well, I did after all study Graphic Arts, decades ago. While I've never been in the business, I guess I've retained a certain flair...

Too Two cute. Looking a bit like a small magician about to do the rope trick.
They're all wonderful, but that first one is so special. It's just priceless.
@ MIKE BRUBAKER:
If I had been a magician, I would have needed a bunny instead of a teddy bear.

What a cute kid! The big bear and the big red ball, what more does a kid need? Hmm, OK, maybe a rosary to psych everyone out. Classic mid-century furniture, just like my parents had c. 1963. Don't get me started on roaches. I had some pretty funky apartments when I moved out on my own. Nuff said.
@ LINDA:
I have no recollection from that place, and it was my only encounter with such creatures. There are bed bugs in my building, but never got any here in my apartment, fortunately.
