Imagine my shock and horror when I got up this morning
when I soon heard that the St James Church was on fire.
Fortunately,
turns out it happened in the section area in the rear,
causing only minor damages,
all things considered.
I went back today to have a look at it,
and indeed,
the front looks fine.
I had mentioned this church before on this blog
and it is a place I like,
and one I respect for all the good it does in the community.
And it remains one of the city's great architectural treasures.
I'm just glad it is still standing.

I'm glad it doesn't seem to have been a serious fire.
ReplyDelete@ KRISTIN:
ReplyDeleteFire is never good news, but it seems to have been contained to a small portion of either the community quarters or private quarters. I don't know how it's organised in there. I've only visited the church.
My shock was that now that the church stood revealed in all its beauty after being hidden for so long behind storefronts, it'd be sad to lose it now.
You know?

Close call! Some of these old structures are very vulnerable to fire.
ReplyDelete@ JIM:
ReplyDeleteSadly, yes...
It'd be a pity to lose this one as well, like so many others...
