I mentioned yesterday that I'd be taking you back to the museum for a while
but you might think I'm taking you today to the petting zoo or on a farm instead...
There's no mistake,
you'll be seeing animals alright!!
Various animals in noble artistic renditions,
be it sculptural or in painting...
"Princess Louise [Joe Fafard, circa 1988]"
Let's start our visit with this beautiful piece,
a bronze depicting a bovine.
If centuries ago,
Montreal (Ville-Marie) used to be farmlands,
now this bronze is as close as I'll ever get to a bull...
"Horse & Cougar [Barry Flanagan, circa 1984]"
Certainly a piece that has always amused me
but can someone explain to me what a cougar would be doing on a horse's back?!?...
"Sleigh [Germany, circa 1720-40]"
While the style of this sleigh is elegant and whimsical all at once,
what caught my attention here
was its shadow on the wall...
"Tapir [China, circa 5th to 1rst century B.C.]"
This little bronze would definitely sit well with my own collection of artifacts.
I've long favored Asian art,
especially sculptures and pottery.
Paintings here are all by Canadian artists.
You might say I'm pretty eclectic in my taste.
I forgot to photograph its tag
so I have to info to offer here.
the shadow here caught my attention,
giving another dimension to this little bronze.
"Cockatoo [French School, circa 18th century]"
I end this post with this painting
and while its cute and well done in its own way,
if you see me hanging something like that in my own home,
I permit you to have me declared insane...
I already have the three portraits of my cats hanging in the livingroom...
Am I nuts...already?!?
