ONCE UPON A TIME... (118/365 DAYS, 4.0)

"Jean Vauquelin (1728-1772)"

A French naval officer that showed bravery on the St Lawrence River among other places,
at a time when France still cared about its colony in North America...
Wiki has a short biography for him.

"Destiny

Did the man know he'd eventually get a monument to his name?
I somehow doubt that he cared much about such details;
but there it is,
standing right next to City Hall,
on Place Vauquelin
I've combined a view of each side and front to give you some idea of its details.
A beautiful monument of a brave man that died young...
by our current standards.

  1. I was thinking the same thing....did he ever imagine that he would have bronze statue in his honour? Quite the tribute for anyone.
    I liked what you did here Bruno.....your own 'Mt. Rushmore' in Montreal, except whole body view!

    1. I think that all he hoped for was a ship to command and defeating the enemy, and a few coins for his trouble, of course!!
      Would he be vain enough to be excited about this, or humble enough to be moved for having left his mark on History?

    1. I tried to give it a vintage feeling, without going the sepia way...
      And using the trees in the frame to its full advantage.
